OUR STORY
Bay Grocer in beautiful Byron Bay came to life in January 2019. Owners Sarah Swan and Jeremy Burn of 100 Mile Table had long aspired to create the food store they felt Byron both needed and deserved – a store for the locals and visitors alike that stocks essential everyday items as well as all those fun things that add sparkle to our lives. Enhancing the shopping experience is our café – a courtyard garden with umbrellas and vegetable beds to perch at and a constantly changing menu of tasty things all served alongside Allpress coffee and our fresh juices and protein smoothies. We have fantastically talented chefs, the world’s best baristas and friendliest staff in general. No joke! We pride ourselves on it.
In early 2020 the new kitchen was built and the deli came to fruition – adding the best of both local and international cheeses and charcuterie - and the ability to make all our wonderful take home meals in store – from the kitchen to the fridge in a heartbeat. Our meals change on a weekly basis but you’ll always find a good selection of the classics - lasagne, eggplant parmigiana, butter chicken, mac’n’cheese, sour yellow curry, curried sausages and our famous fish pie. Ever changing family favourites. Customers will find plenty of Bay Grocer house made products on the shelves too - classic dressings like lemon myrtle, buttermilk ranch and bang bang – hot sauces, kim chi and Sichuan oil.
Roast chickens from Elgin Valley are roasted each day for customers to take home – hot out of the oven at 3pm Monday to Friday and 12 midday on the weekend. With a side of roast veg.
So many beautiful local farms are represented in store – too many to list. Those that know the Northern Rivers well will know that this place punches above it’s weight when it comes to growers, makers, producers – the talent is mind blowing and we proudly stock a huge selection of local products – we shout ‘support local’ loudly from the front counter all the way through to the darkest back corner of our cool room. We sell meats from Trevor Mead Butchery, Barcoo, Fair Game Wild Venison and LP’s Quality Meats. We sell fish from The Bay Seafood Market. We have the wonderful Salumi Australia deli meats and lots of beautiful cheeses from Byron Bay Cheese Co, Nimbin Valley Dairy and Burringbar cheese maker Deb Allard as well as an international selection of cheeses from Will Studd - plus San Daniele prosciutto, jamon, terrines and pates and all the pastas, passatas, pickles and chutneys. As much as we champion small and local, we also sink our teeth into many quality imported goods. We are not everything to everyone but we offer so much of what people need and plenty of what they want.
